PORT LOUIS, Mauritius – June 5, 2026 – On the sidelines of the Africa Aquatics and Zone 4 Open Water Swimming Championships (June 6–7), Africa Aquatics held a high-level meeting with the Mauritius Ministry of Youth and Sport and the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).

The discussions reinforced the continental partnership around open water and aquatic disciplines, with concrete focus areas: talent identification, coach and judge development, and the hosting of future major championships.

Africa Aquatics takes this opportunity to warmly congratulate the Mauritius Aquatics Federation for the outstanding organization of these Championships. Their professionalism, dedication, and the quality of the facilities on display reflect the highest standards of continental aquatics — and set a benchmark for future host nations.

The momentum behind open water on the continent speaks for itself: 102 swimmers from 14 nations are competing in the ongoing championships in Mauritius — a clear sign of the discipline's rapid growth across Africa.

"Mauritius is not just a host; it is a key partner in our mission to professionalize and expand aquatics across Africa," said Mohamed Diop, President of Africa Aquatics.

"We are creating clear pathways for our athletes, coaches, and officials. These agreements will translate into more competitions, better facilities, and stronger national federations," added Jace Naidoo, Secretary General of Africa Aquatics.

Follow-up working sessions will be scheduled to implement concrete action plans emerging from these talks.
